First restaurant in Ireland and UK to support WLS Guide Members

Savoy Hotel in Limerick, Ireland, has become the first restaurant in Ireland and UK to support WLS Guide Members who request help with smaller portions of food

The Savoy Hotel in Limerick, Ireland, has become the first restaurant in Ireland and UK to support WLS Guide Members who request help with smaller portions of food. According to the WLS, 51% of people in the UK are overweight and 13 million have obesity - last year an estimated 5,500 5people had bariatric surgery on the NHS for weight loss management.  These people will forever need to watch what they eat and their portion sizes.

“This means that eating out in their favorite restaurants can be difficult or they are reduced to always eating ‘chicken nuggets’ off a child’s menu,” said Sandie Belton, Director of WLS Guide Ltd. “We were approached by several of our members who visit Savoy in Limerick to support their cause in being able to order from the Adults Menu, enjoying a wider choice of food, and not being charged for a portion size they can’t eat.

WLS Guide are delighted that the Savoy at Limerick are working with them to help their members select smaller portions without always being directed to a child’s menu. This means that Savoy in Limerick is the first establishment in the UK and Republic of Ireland to actively work with them in this way. WLS have requested similar help from UK’s leading restaurant brands, sadly no one else has responded.

“All of our members can carry a card displaying their request and explaining their bariatric operation. With this card, we aim to work with the Service Industry to ensure our members can still socialize as before with friends and family and not be penalized with their food choices,” added Belton.

WLS Guide Ltd is a worldwide support group based in the UK - supporting all weight loss surgical members from those seeking surgery to those who support their family and friends in this journey. It is a one stop community offering Information, Support and Friendship aimed at bringing simplicity to a complicated community – letting people know What Good Looks Like – and giving all somewhere safe to come and explore
