Allergan applies for remotely AGB system patent

According to files posted on 26th December 2013 on the website of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Allergan have applied for a US patent for a ‘Remotely adjustable gastric banding (AGB) system’.

The papers filed with the USPTO, the implantable device comprises a reservoir for holding a fluid and a sensor positioned between the gastric band and the reservoir.

The system includes:

  • A sensor that monitors a parameter of the fluid when filling and draining the inflatable portion of the gastric band;
  • A first flow control device that controls a flow of the fluid when filling and draining the inflatable portion of the gastric band;
  • A pumping device that moves the fluid into and out of the inflatable portion of the gastric band; and
  • The pumping device is capable of being activated and deactivated using a telemetric signal received from a remote device.
