SOBA promotes Single Sheet Anaesthetic Summary

Designed as an aide-memoire for the anaesthetist faced with managing a morbidly obese patient

The Society for Obesity and Bariatric Anaesthesia (SOBA) launched its updated anaesthesia summary for the treatment of morbidly obese patients at the AAGBI winter scientific meeting 16-18th January  2013.

Compiled by Drs Claire Nightingale, Jonathan Redman, Mark Stein and Nick Kennedy, the poster informs users on pre-operative evaluation, operative and post-operative management, as well as the optimum drug-dosing levels for anaesthetising morbidly obese patients.

Treasurer of SOBA, Dr Claire Nightingale said, “This single sheet was designed as an aide-memoire for the anaesthetist faced with managing a morbidly obese patient. It is the culmination of many years of international research and shared experience in anaesthetising patients for bariatric surgery. In this dynamic field of evidence and research, we keep the sheet updated and host the latest version along with a separate reference list on the SOBA website."

Chairman of SOBA Dr Nick Kennedy said:“This guideline is invaluable for anaesthetists dealing with morbidly obese patients. SOBA suggests every anaesthetic room has one”

The A4 sheet is designed to be available in a laminated form in the anaesthetic room or pre-assessment clinic. It is available to download as a PDF from the SOBA website.
