About the Role

The Department of Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and VCU Health System is seeking a qualified faculty member to join the Division of Bariatric & Gastrointestinal Surgery at VCU Medical Center and affiliated campuses. This position is a junior to mid-level, term, non-tenure track faculty position. The surgeon is expected to practice at the Division of Bariatric & Gastrointestinal Surgery in the main campus and also provide support for the VCU affiliated General Surgery practice at a community general surgery expansion, with the support of the Division and Department leadership.


The ideal candidate should possess significant expertise in the broad field of general surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and endoscopy. The faculty member will also support the Division with teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including oversight of residents and fellows as well as instruction in General, Bariatric & Gastrointestinal Surgery. Faculty member may participate in research activities and/or collaborate with others on research projects and endeavors.

Requirements

  • Board Certification or Eligibility in General Surgery

  • Commitment to teaching and education of medical students and other trainees

  • Ability to work in a complex matrixed environment with a high emotional intelligence

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU


Preferred qualifications

  • Fellowship in Advanced GI/MIS, Foregut and/or Bariatric Surgery

  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level.
