The 13th Congress of the IFSO European Chapter (EC), taking place from May 15–17, 2025, in the enchanting city of Venice, Italy, will bring together leading voices in metabolic and bariatric surgery for a dynamic and forward-looking scientific meeting. Following the success of the 12th Congress in Vienna last year - which welcomed over 900 delegates and marked a major post-COVID resurgence - this year’s gathering is expected to be even more impactful.

This year’s 13th conference is set against the historic backdrop of Venice, a city founded in 421AD and renowned for its canals, architecture and cultural legacy, the Congress will offer a uniquely inspiring setting. The programme is being led by Congress President Maurizio De Luca under the presidency of Nicola Di Lorenzo and will feature a comprehensive schedule across three days of lectures, debates, symposia, abstract sessions, and live video presentations.
Key topics will include:
The multimodal treatment of obesity, encompassing surgical, endoscopic, medical, and lifestyle approaches
Addressing therapeutic inertia in obesity care and improving adherence
The emerging role of artificial intelligence in surgical planning and outcome prediction
Innovations in bariatric endoscopy and robotic-assisted surgery
Managing obesity at the extremes of age, in high-risk cohorts, and in the context of fertility and gender-specific challenges
Deep dives into revision surgery, complications, guidelines and RCTs
"A not-to-be-missed event in the heart of Venice for the global bariatric community"
Sessions will also be dedicated to allied health professionals, psychological support, nutrition, and patient perspectives, emphasising the Congress’s inclusive, multidisciplinary ethos. The Young IFSO community will play a prominent role, with tailored sessions and networking opportunities.
Delegates will not only benefit from a world-class academic experience but will also enjoy a rich social programme. Highlights will include a Venetian conference dinner, a community run open to all, and engaging events such as the European Quiz Battle, all set within one of the most iconic cities in the world.
