XNY Medical’s ENDO NOVA Powered Stapler 75mm Reload enhances performance, usability and patient outcomes

Updated: 16 minutes ago

Bariatric News spoke with Dr Carlos Gomez (International Specialist Center International Hospital of Colombia, Bucaramanga, Colombia) about his experience with XNY Medical’s ENDO NOVA Powered Stapler 75mm Reload, which the company believes, is an advanced feature that enhances performance, usability and patient outcomes for various surgical procedures.

“I have been using the ENDO NOVA Powered Stapler 75mm Reload for about six months now have performed approximately 100 cases,” he explained. “In my opinion, the 75mm reload is particularly suitable for sleeve gastrectomies because it allows me to achieve a more tailored sleeve with a highly symmetric shape.

According to Dr Carlos Gomez, when compared to more common sizes the 75mm length of the device means fewer reloads are required to complete the sleeve, therefore there are fewer junctions between reloads, resulting in a more linear sleeve shape.

The device offers a stepped cartridge face that delivers graduated compression and three rows of varied height staples which, the company claims, reduces anastomotic leaks, compared to alternative brands. In addition, the length of the device also delivers a gentle and controlled compression, resulting in better perfusion for the staple lines.

“I think it’s an excellent stapling device, particularly due to its innovative length and ergonomic design. Typically, for a gastric sleeve, I use four 75mm reloads, although the procedure can also be performed with three 75mm and one 45mm reload. With other brands, I usually needed five reloads per procedure.”

In his experience, Dr Gomez has not experienced any device related issues and he said that the compression force feels consistent with other reload lengths, providing an ideal performance during the stapling process. Moreover, he added that the reload provides very clean cuts and staggered staple heights. In approximately 100 cases using this technology, he has not encountered any haemostasis issues.

“I have used reloads from nearly all major manufacturers. In my opinion, XNY’s stapler and reloads are the most ergonomic, as they require less force from the surgeon during firing. Additionally, since I started using the 75mm reloads, I have been able to complete gastric sleeve procedures with one less reload, which has made a meaningful difference in my practice. The 75mm length allows for a more linear sleeve shape and helps reduce medical waste by eliminating the need for an additional reload in each procedure. I consider it a significant innovation from XNY Medical. This can have a positive impact on both the ergonomics and cost-effectiveness of their surgical procedures.

“There are several reasons that makes this reload superior to other brands. It provides strong compression force even with its longer length, it fires smoothly, and it helps reduce the number of reloads needed during the procedure,” Dr Gomez concluded. “Overall, it has been a very positive experience for me.”
