We also highlight a symposia from the IFSO-EC Congress that examined the considerations when moving from laparoscopic to robotic-assisted bariatric surgery, and have an exclusive interview with Mr Ahmed Ahmed about the current status of bariatric surgery in the UK, his hopes and aims as the new President of the British Obesity and Metabolic 'Specialist' Society.


There is a report from Canadian researchers that has found the swallowable, biofragmentable magnetic anastomosis system is feasible, safe and effective in achieving incisionless, suture – or staplefree magnetic duodenoileostomy bipartition, at one-year follow-up. They found the device and procedure provide a promising minimally invasive option for moderate, clinically meaningful weight loss and T2DM mitigation.


The UK’s Society of Obesity and Bariatric Anaesthesia (SOBA) has published 43 recommendations which cover a number of key areas of practice, including: preassessment; planning; peroxygenation; tracheal intubation; supraglottic airway devices; tracheal extubation; training; and organisational responsibilities.
